So No One Can See the Tears by Ghostwalker2061 So No One Can See the Tears by Ghostwalker2061
:icondonotuseplz::iconmyartplz:

Galen Garath, aka King Bahamut...and he's not feeling godly tonight. Hell, he never feels very godly. Like EVER. He never wanted the job to be the Platinum Dragon, King of Dragons. Never wanted any of it. So, call him Blessed with Godly Suck? Yeah, that's his trope.

Since I'm not feeling all that great, here's a sad image. Been working on this one for like a few months. I've wanted to do this sad image of Galen in his god-form, but with his hair all disheveled, his regalia (the golden crown and other royal jewelry he wears off) and him really not looking majestic.

In the storyline that I write him in, Bahamut never really wanted the divinity.  So, he's kinda blessed with suck in how I write him.

This is so beautiful and so sad. Many would expect Bahamut to be the great noble and strong god of paladins and the image of justice. But everyone has their weakness...even, dare I say, a god has weaknesses. Those eyes are the windows into his soul and I see sadness and weariness. The rain running down his face and neck seem to indicate that the weather is reflecting his sadness...shedding tears with him.
The background is so dark, with so much gray and blue, the only light being a violent arc of lightning. The lighting, nevertheless, really shines on his scales...which look dulled by his inner sadness as well. Very well done...I'm gonna go cry now.

Seriously, this image does an incredible job capturing and revealing what's going on in Galen's mind-- it's a wonderful mix of characterization and storytelling. It's especially impactful when contrasted with King Bahamut and the Seven Canaries, which shows how most people in-universe likely expect (demand) he appear and behave.

Great layering of detail with his downcast expression, unfocused stare, relaxed & drooping body language, the whisp of fire suggesting a sigh, the tears mixing with the rain, etc. The use of color also fits the image really well, with the dreary blue background, heavy use of gray throughout, and the slight orange tint on his scales for contrast. All of these details together really pull the image together into a cohesive narrative.

Thank you.

I should do another image of Galen. Basically a bit of a back history of him of how he got the nickname of the Gold Bandit. Basically showing Bahamut doing something you'd not think Bahamut actually would do...steal things. Even when he was Bahamut, Galen still stole valuable items.

The fact that he's called the "Gold Bandit" definitely stands out in the story; it's not a name one would typically associate with a "good" deity. It'd definitely be cool to see how he earned that name; it's an interesting contrast to how he'd be expected to behave.

I do have quite a back story for Galen.

I'm surprised you haven't posted on the journal about Nel going to Pandaria yet either.

I better have a drink to be on the safe side.

I know if my dragon Kizuoa was there (which oncannon he's Bahamut's son), he'd warmly embrace Galen and do whatever he can to comfort his fellow dragon.

The pic's really sad.. I feel bad for him. :(

Can't say I blame him for being down in the dumps; his job is not one I'd want.

For some reason I'm also reminded of this line from the song Forever Autumn; "A gentle rain falls softly on my weary eyes, As if to hide a lonely tear."
