If I ask you to build me a chair, and you build me one that is hastily put together and is not safe to sit in, I am going to tell you that you have done poor quality in craftsmanship. But if you build me a chair that is both aesthetically pleasing and very sturdy and that this chair would complement my household, then I am going to tell you that you have done a very good job.
So, why is it when I state why I don't do art trades, people think that I'm being hateful?
Maybe I am just telling them that I do not like the quality of their work.
Has the Internet come to the point that if we don't like the low quality stuff as much as we like the high quality stuff, we're horrible people?
Everyone has standards. There is nothing wrong with that.
And once again, NO I don't do art trades. Now, I can deviate from this rule if there is something that is on your site that peaks my interest. And anyone who asks me to do an art trade, before I make the decision of "NO" I do look at that person's site. If their artwork isn't something that I like, I will say "No".
And it's okay. It's okay if I say "NO" because I'm not interested in your artwork. It's okay. That has nothing to do on what I think of you as a person. People are allowed not to like what they see.
Ever since I've worked for a year at the job I work at. I realize everyone has their own taste. Some people don't like opals. I like opals. But some people don't. And they'll tell me why. Am I supposed to be insulted because they don't like opals? No!
And as for the art trade, think of artwork like trading a used car for another car.
You walk in and want to trade your car for another car, and you expect it to be an equal trade, meaning no extra money to be paid to take the new car home.
Thing is though, you're trading for a Mercedes Benz and you own a Pinto. Not only a Pinto, but a Pinto who's got a headlight missing, Broken automatic doors and locks, shattered rear window, and all sorts of horrible stains on the seat covers.
The salesman at the dealership is going to be laughing his ass off and probably telling you to get the hell off his lot.
But here in the Internet, it's expected. It's expected to trade that old broken down PInto for the nice Mercedes Benz and the person who owned the Benz is expected to suck it up because it might hurt the feelings of the person who owns the Pinto.
Is this where we're getting to now?
